Jamie Carragher avoids bankruptcy after settling £700,000 tax debt with HMRC
Carragher's bankruptcy petition dismissed after tax bill settled
Former Premier League footballer Jamie Carragher, 48, will not be made bankrupt after he settled an unpaid tax bill with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
Judge Nicholas Briggs dismissed a bankruptcy petition issued in August against the ex-Liverpool defender at the Insolvency and Companies Court earlier.

Debt paid, no figure given in court
Kevin Hassan, appearing for HMRC, told the hearing in London that the debt has been paid, with no figure given in court. The debt was previously said to be in the region of £700,000 to £800,000.
A one-club career and a second act in punditry
Carragher, from Merseyside, spent his entire professional career with Liverpool and was part of the squad which won the Champions League in 2005. He retired in 2013 after making 737 appearances for the club and has since become a pundit, appearing on Sky Sports and CBS Sports.
