Como president credits youth investment and Lake Como appeal for club’s rapid rise
Como’s growth plan looks beyond the pitch
Como president Mirwan Suwarso says the club’s rapid rise through Italian football has been driven by a willingness to rebuild with young talent and to develop commercial opportunities around the city’s global appeal.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Suwarso contrasted Como’s approach with that of established clubs, which can make smaller changes to their squads. “An established team can change three or four players; we, from promotion to promotion, change nine or ten at a time,” he said.
He described developing young players as a central part of the project, particularly after the club’s reported qualification for the Champions League came earlier than expected. “Look at what we’re investing in: young people with the potential to improve and grow in value,” Suwarso said, adding that European football had created a further need to strengthen the team.
A tourism and hospitality proposition
The president also pointed to the club’s growing reach beyond its home market. He said only 14% of Como’s commercial revenue comes from the city and its province, while the club sells shirts in cities including London, Paris, Milan and New York.
Suwarso said Como wants to connect football with the Lake Como setting, offering visitors matchday experiences alongside travel packages and food. “We are building a broader ecosystem, drawing on the lake’s identity, its global appeal, and the aspirations associated with it,” he said. “This creates opportunities in merchandising, hospitality, travel, and tourism, beyond traditional football revenues.”
“We want to play good football and win, but Como is also a lifestyle destination. Ignoring this would be a mistake,” he added.
The report says Como were seventh in the league table after a goalless draw with Roma, who had a player sent off. The club now faces the challenge of balancing its domestic campaign with European competition as its project continues to expand.
