Barcelona secure summer signing with bumper release clause

La Liga giants Barcelona have tied down one of the most exciting young talents in their attacking ranks, confirming on Friday that Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim has signed a new contract committing his future to the club until 30 June 2030.

Abdelkarim, 18, first arrived in Catalonia on loan from Egyptian side Al Ahly back in January. His immediate impact was enough to convince the Blaugrana to make the move permanent during the summer transfer window, and the teenager has only continued to rise since.

From pre-season star to La Liga debutant

Well aware of the teenager's goalscoring talents, head coach Hansi Flick afforded Abdelkarim the chance to impress with the first-team setup during pre-season in the Catalan capital. The 18-year-old grasped the opportunity with both hands, finding the net in several friendly fixtures, including during Barcelona's pre-season outings.

That form earned him a La Liga debut in Barcelona's comprehensive drubbing of Rayo Vallecano late last month, and it came as little surprise when reports emerged that the Camp Nou hierarchy had already moved to lock down their young goalscorer for the long term.

Release clause tenfold increase

On Friday, those efforts officially bore fruit. In a statement released across Barcelona's social media channels, the club announced: 'FC Barcelona and player Hamza Abdelkarim have reached an agreement for the renewal of the Egyptian footballer's contract until 30 June 2030.'

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has since confirmed the most significant aspect of the deal — a dramatic surge in the player's buyout figure: 'The former release clause was worth €15m; the new one will be worth €150m.'

The tenfold increase in the release clause represents a clear statement of intent from Barcelona, signalling both their faith in Abdelkarim's long-term potential and their determination to ward off interest from Europe's elite clubs as the young forward continues his rapid development under Flick.
