Riyan Parag Undergoes Successful Shoulder Surgery; Set for Long Recovery Period
Surgery Success and Recovery Outlook
Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag underwent a successful shoulder surgery on Thursday at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. The procedure was performed by Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwalla, a renowned orthopedic surgeon and consultant for the BCCI, known for treating numerous top-tier athletes.
Sharing the news with his followers on Instagram, Parag reflected on the physical and mental toll the injury has taken over the last two years. "Well, the shoulder finally won! For everyone who’s been asking, the surgery is done and went well," he posted. "The past two years have tested me in ways I never expected. There were good days, frustrating days, and days when simply getting through a game was a challenge."
The Road to Recovery
The 24-year-old all-rounder is now facing a rigorous rehabilitation phase. He noted that the next chapter involves "recovery, rehab and patience," adding, "I’ll be back doing what I love soon. See you on the other side."
Medical experts and reports suggest that Parag will be sidelined for a considerable period, likely missing a majority of the 2026-27 season. His rehabilitation process will be strictly managed by the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Recent Challenges and Performance
Parag's recent career has been a mixture of on-field success and off-field hurdles. Despite dealing with shoulder and hamstring injuries—the latter of which led to him being replaced by Ruturaj Gaikwad as vice-captain of the India A squad for the tri-series against Afghanistan A and Sri Lanka A—he remained a pivotal player for the Rajasthan Royals.
During IPL-2026, Parag led the Royals into the playoffs, accumulating 309 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 157.65. However, his tenure was not without controversy; he was fined and warned by the BCCI after being caught vaping in the dressing room.
The Assam captain has also represented India in one ODI and nine T20Is throughout 2024, establishing himself as a versatile batting all-rounder before this surgical setback.
