Rio Ngumoha left out as England open Nations League campaign against Spain at Wembley

Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha has not been named in England's matchday squad for Saturday's Nations League opener against Spain at Wembley (19:45 BST).

The 18-year-old forward was named in a full senior squad for the first time by England boss Thomas Tuchel earlier this month, but he will miss out on the party that will take on the reigning world and European champions.

Welcome England's newest prodigy!

A rapid rise to the senior setup

Ngumoha was one of the five supplementary players who flew with the England senior squad for their pre-World Cup training camp in Florida in the summer.

He was then unexpectedly handed his senior debut in a 1-0 friendly win against New Zealand, impressing in a second-half cameo and becoming the fifth youngest player ever to represent the Three Lions.

From Accrington debut to late-winner heroics

Ngumoha has enjoyed a remarkable rise since becoming the youngest player in Liverpool's history to start a first-team match, making his debut as a 16-year-old in the FA Cup against Accrington Stanley during the 2024-25 season.

He then announced himself on the biggest stage by marking his Premier League debut with a stunning late winner in the Reds' 3-2 win at Newcastle last season.

Despite the hype, he has made only three league appearances this season — and just one of those has come as a starter — as he continues his development under Andoni Iraola at Liverpool.
