Barcelona star Fermín López says the players fully trust sporting director Deco to make the right call when it comes to signing a new No. 9 for the club.

The Catalans began the new season without a recognised striker in their first-team squad, yet still managed to smash five past Elche in their opening fixture. López was one of the standout performers, scoring twice for Hansi Flick's side before addressing the striker debate in his post-match interview.

"We trust Deco, whatever they decide will be best for the team, but it's true that we have many options in the squad and we've shown that," López said. "It's something that doesn't depend on us, they'll do what's best for the club."

López, who was thrilled to be back in action and back in the goals after a tough summer that saw him miss the World Cup through injury, reflected on his return to form.

"I was really looking forward to starting the year well; it's been a tough summer for me. I think I've started well, I just need to keep getting back into rhythm, I'm exhausted. But I'm happy for the team," he added.

The midfielder also offered a reassuring update on his fitness, confirming that the foot problem that plagued his summer is now fully behind him.

"Yes, yes. My foot is fine now. Nothing much, now I just need to keep getting back into the swing of things and feel good again, comfortable."

Manager Hansi Flick also addressed Barcelona's search for a No. 9 after the game, revealing that he will hold further discussions with Deco this week as the club weighs up its options in the transfer market.
