Noah Stromsted Dominates Three-Way Battle to Claim Spielberg Feature Race Victory
A Masterclass in Patience and Pace
The 2026 FIA Formula 3 season continues its trend of unpredictability as Noah Stromsted became the eighth different winner in eight races, claiming a hard-fought victory in the Feature Race at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.
Starting from fourth on the grid, the TRIDENT driver played a strategic game of patience. While the early stages of the race saw high-intensity action at the front, Stromsted remained composed, even after momentarily losing a position to his teammate, Freddie Slater. This calculated approach allowed him to preserve his Pirelli tyres, a move that would prove decisive in the closing stages of the event.
The Battle for the Lead
As the race unfolded, polesitter Hiyu Yamakoshi was quickly overtaken by championship leader Ugo Ugochukwu and Freddie Slater. Slater, an Audi Development Driver, successfully challenged Ugochukwu for the lead, shifting into a defensive posture to hold off his rivals for several laps.
However, Stromsted's tyre management paid off. After climbing back into P3, he utilized his superior grip to execute a double-overtake, first clearing Ugochukwu for second place and then surging past Slater to take the race lead. This marked Stromsted's second win in the Championship and his first of the 2026 campaign.
Championship Implications
While Stromsted took the glory, the fight for the title continued to intensify. In a fierce battle for the remaining podium spots on the final lap, Ugochukwu made a "brave pass down the inside of Turn 4 despite being pinched to the grass," eventually beating Slater to the line.
The result has significant implications for the standings: Ugo Ugochukwu leaves Spielberg with his championship lead extended to 16 points over Freddie Slater. The battle now moves to Silverstone next weekend, where Slater will look to mount a comeback on home soil.
