Lamine Yamal Planned World Cup Tribute for Injured Barcelona Teammate Fermin Lopez

Yamal’s unused tribute to Lopez

Fermin Lopez has revealed that Lamine Yamal planned a personal tribute for him during the World Cup after an injury ended Lopez’s hopes of taking part in the tournament with Spain.

Lopez suffered a fractured metatarsal before the tournament and was forced to miss out on the Spain squad. He remained in contact with his Barcelona teammates, particularly Yamal, while the competition was under way.

“I probably spoke more with Lamine, and I know that one day, during a match, he had a jersey ready for me in case he scored, but he couldn’t,” Lopez told Mundo Deportivo. “The gesture is there, the photographer told me about it, and it’s a very nice touch that unfortunately didn’t come to fruition.”

A strong partnership at Barcelona

Lopez also described his relationship with Yamal and explained how he tries to support the winger on the pitch. He said Yamal’s ability to attract several defenders creates space that he can exploit, while his passing is intended to help his teammate play with confidence.

“He’s a friend, and I try to make things easier for him and take advantage of the fact that he draws a lot of players in, and I try to exploit the spaces,” Lopez said. “I try to give him a lot of passes, to make him feel comfortable, and I think we understand each other very well.”

Both Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal are now with Spain as they prepare for a Nations League meeting with England.
