Lustrinelli and Rönnow hail Union Berlin defensive turnaround after 0-0 draw with Dortmund

Union Berlin praise improved stability after holding Dortmund scoreless

Union Berlin continued their improved form with a goalless draw against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday at the Stadion an der Alten Försterei. The result came a week after Mauro Lustrinelli’s side recorded their first clean sheet and win of the season against Elversberg.

Speaking after the 0-0, Lustrinelli, who was under pressure after a poor start to the season, said the performance built on last week’s showing.

"We have continued the good performance that we showed last week throughout this week," said the coach.

The capital club had conceded 14 goals in the last three games before the international break, including a 7-0 defeat to FC Bayern.

"I am very satisfied with the team's work. They worked together and tried until the end to win the game. It's a nice 0-0 for us," Lustrinelli concluded his evaluation of the game.

Rönnow highlights work on stability

Goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow also focused on defensive improvements after the three-week break.

"Of course, we conceded too many goals in the first games, which is why we wanted to use the international break to work on our stability," said Rönnow in his post-match interview.
"I think we have done quite well in that regard and today we were able to deliver a solid team performance again. We are pleased with the point, but we want to stay focused," added Rönnow after keeping back-to-back clean sheets, via Union Berlin’s website.

Defensive unit praised

Center-back Felix Uduokhai, who returned to Bundesliga after a spell in Turkish Super Lig, echoed the team-first message.

"We simply defend better as a whole team. I'm really excited that we kept a clean sheet today. We need to build on that. We knew today the focus was on being compact and that we defend clearly as a unit."
