Polish legend delivers in front of home crowd after quiet start

After a pair of goalless games, Chicago Fire fans were certainly hoping to see more from Robert Lewandowski in his home debut. The 37-year-old obliged, scoring his first two goals in MLS and sparking a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Charlotte FC.

Just like that, the pressure and anticipation can subside.

"That type of quality is hard to find," Fire coach Gregg Berhalter said after the match. "When you look at the two goals he scored and some of the other plays he made in the game, it's just very high quality. He's dynamic, smart and clever. He sees the game and reads the game very well. Most importantly, in the box, he's an absolute killer. This is hopefully the beginning of a lot of goals."

Lewandowski's second goal was a thing of beauty. The 27 passes leading to the strike equaled the longest passing move for any of his 395 goals across La Liga and the Bundesliga — a true tiki-taca moment in the Windy City.

Chicago sits fourth in the Eastern Conference. The team will continue to evolve with Lewandowski in place and further reinforcements likely to follow this summer.

"I don't think we're there yet," Berhalter said. "I think we have another gear, to be honest. There's more to come."
