'In football you never know' – Ferran Torres drops Barcelona exit hint as club tell PSG he is not for sale

Ferran Torres has plunged his Barcelona future into fresh uncertainty, admitting he has yet to make a decision on where he will play his football next season — even as the club moved to slam the door shut on Paris Saint-Germain's pursuit of the forward.

The 26-year-old, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract at the Spotify Camp Nou, has emerged as a leading target for the European champions, who continue to push for his signature after a career-best campaign.

Torres: "I'm waiting to make the right decision"

Speaking during an appearance on Spanish TV, the former Manchester City man was asked directly about his situation in Catalunya — and his answer did little to reassure Barcelona supporters.

"I have a contract with FC Barcelona but in football you never know. I'm waiting to make the right decision. I don't know, I don't know yet."

Pressed further on whether he has a dream club in mind, the World Cup winner added:

"Yes, but I just want to be happy."

The comments represent a dramatic shift for a player previously considered more than happy at the club. After scoring 21 goals in 2025-26 — his best single-season return — and following that up by scoring the winning goal for Spain in the World Cup final, Torres is understood to be giving serious consideration to a new adventure away from Camp Nou.

Barcelona's message to PSG: he is not for sale

Contrasting reports in recent days suggested the Camp Nou hierarchy had opened up to a potential sale given the player's contract situation. But hours later, Deco and the club's leadership moved to shut that speculation down entirely.

"FC Barcelona's stance in this case is very clear: Ferran Torres is not for sale, according to sources within the club. This is because they are counting on him."

The plan, according to Mundo Deportivo, is to sit down with Torres in September — once the transfer window has closed — to work out the terms of a new contract.

Why Torres matters so much to Flick

The forward has been a key figure since arriving from Manchester City in December 2021, scoring 65 goals in 207 appearances across all competitions. His importance has only grown following Robert Lewandowski's departure at the end of his contract, with Hansi Flick admitting this week that the club's entire striker strategy hinges on what happens with Torres.

"We know we have to do something. It also depends on Ferran. We'll see what we do," Flick said, underlining the delicate balancing act: lose Torres to PSG and the urgency to sign a number nine intensifies dramatically; keep him, and Barcelona retain a proven goalscorer while they continue their search.

For now, the club insist he is going nowhere — but the player's own words suggest this saga is far from settled.
