Galway GM reveals Casemiro chose Inter Miami after claiming he 'only wanted to play for the Galaxy'

Casemiro's U-turn stuns LA Galaxy

LA Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz has revealed that Casemiro told him he "only wanted to play for the Galaxy" — before the Brazilian midfielder ultimately chose Inter Miami this summer. The comments shed new light on one of Major League Soccer's most intriguing transfer sagas of the season.

Speaking to the media, Kuntz disclosed Casemiro's change of heart: "It is true that Casemiro called and said that he always wanted to play for Inter Miami. It's also true that came two months after he told us that he only wanted to play for the Galaxy."

The 34-year-old former Manchester United star joined Inter Miami on a one-year deal following his departure from the Premier League club, with an option to extend his stay with the MLS side until 2029.

Casemiro in action for Inter Miami

Casemiro spent four years at Manchester United, where he helped the club lift both the EFL Cup and FA Cup before deciding against renewing his contract at Old Trafford. He made his Miami debut last month in a 1-0 victory over CF Montreal, while his second appearance ended in a 2-2 draw with the Columbus Crew last weekend — a match in which he scored an own goal.

MLS investigation

The Galaxy reportedly held the discovery rights to Casemiro before reaching a settlement with Miami, though MLS has since launched an investigation into the matter.

Miami, currently second in the Eastern Conference, will compete in the Leagues Cup before their next MLS fixture on August 15 against conference leaders Nashville SC.

The Galaxy, who failed to qualify for the Leagues Cup, face the Houston Dynamo in their next league encounter.
