Milan owners RedBird in preliminary talks over majority stake in Al-Nassr with Ronaldo
RedBird eye majority control of Al-Nassr
Milan's ownership group RedBird Capital have held talks regarding a potential purchase of a majority stake in Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, a deal that would also see Cristiano Ronaldo claim 20% of the shares in the club he currently plays for, according to reports on Tuesday.
Debt clearance and a possible sale
According to Calcio e Finanza, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which owns 100% of the shares in Al-Nassr, is working to settle the club's current debts, which reportedly amount to €190m ($213m, £160m). The aim is to improve the club's financial situation to facilitate a sale to a consortium of investors led by RedBird, who also own Milan.
Talks at a preliminary stage
The Calcio e Finanza report claims RedBird have met "at least twice" with representatives from the PIF and have discussed acquiring a 70% stake in Al-Nassr. RedBird are reportedly prepared to invest around €238m ($267m) for that stake, which would give the club a total valuation of €340m ($381m).
Ronaldo could take a 20% stake in the club, and other entities, including the Saudi Media Company, are also said to be involved in the consortium.
However, negotiations are described as being at a 'preliminary' stage, and sources have told Calcio e Finanza that an agreement between RedBird and the Saudi PIF is not guaranteed at this stage.
Note: Ronaldo's current Saudi Pro League figures for the 2025-26 season, per FotMob at the time of fetching, stand at 7 appearances and 4 goals.
