Barcelona offer Pedri update ahead of start of new 2026-27 La Liga season

Barcelona have confirmed that Pedri is yet to commence full training with his team-mates ahead of the new season as he continues to follow a specific program. The midfielder has returned to pre-season training this week alongside his Spain team-mates after a summer spent winning the World Cup with La Roja, but he is currently training separately from the rest of the squad.

The club say the arrangement is not injury-related. According to Mundo Deportivo, Pedri was advised to begin pre-season in the gym for “purely physical preparation reasons” before moving out onto the grass, which he has now done.

Barcelona are currently finalising their pre-season preparations and will take on FC Basel in a friendly on Sunday before their final warm-up game on Wednesday in the Joan Gamper trophy. After that, Hansi Flick and his players will be focused on their first La Liga game of the season, which takes place next Sunday away at Elche.
