Guardian launches Moving the Goalposts: a twice-weekly women's football newsletter
The Guardian has thrown its weight behind the rapid growth of the women's game with the launch of Moving the Goalposts, a free newsletter delivering a global roundup of women's football news twice a week.
Described by its editors as “informative, entertaining, global, critical – when needed – and, above all, passionate,” the new email promises readers an expert-led view of a sport that continues to capture mainstream attention. Subscribers can expect a mix of analysis, interviews and commentary covering the biggest stories from domestic leagues and international competitions alike.
Star power behind the email
The newsletter will be written mainly by Guardian journalists Júlia Belas Trindade and Sophie Downey, with guest appearances from some of the biggest names in the sport. Readers can look forward to contributions from the likes of Ballon d'Or Féminin winner Ada Hegerberg, Chelsea captain Magdalena Eriksson, and former England international and pundit Anita Asante, among others.
“Join us as we delve deeper into the wonderful world of women's football in our weekly newsletter,” the launch announcement read. “It is informative, entertaining, global, critical – when needed – and, above all, passionate.”
Part of a growing email family
Moving the Goalposts joins an established stable of Guardian sports emails. Alongside the occasionally funny football daily The Fiver, published Monday to Friday, there are weekly catch-ups for cricket in The Spin and rugby union in The Breakdown, plus The Recap, a seven-day roundup of the best of the paper's sports journalism.
For readers based in Australia, the Guardian also offers its daily sports newsletter, ensuring fans across time zones can keep pace with the action.
The newsletter is free to subscribe to and lands in inboxes twice a week, offering a dedicated space for women's football coverage at a moment when the sport is enjoying unprecedented visibility and investment.
