Arsenal’s slump deepens as Slegers thanks fans after City defeat

Arsenal’s supporters back Slegers despite another defeat

Renée Slegers went to thank Arsenal’s travelling fans after Sunday’s 4-2 defeat by Manchester City, and the 2,000-strong away support applauded the head coach in return. Arsenal have now won only once in six matches in all competitions and sit 10 points behind City.

“I mostly went there to thank them, connect with them and show them I care for them and appreciate them coming to Manchester,” Slegers said. She added that she wanted to acknowledge the supporters were not “getting the rewards, just like the team,” and said she chose to connect rather than “walk away and hide”.

Walsh drives Chelsea’s win

Chelsea responded to West Ham with a 3-0 victory, powered by an influential display from Keira Walsh. The midfielder scored her second Women’s Super League goal of 2026-27 and earned a third successive player-of-the-match award.

Walsh recorded five shots and three completed dribbles, more than any other player in the match. Her coach, Sonia Bompastor, praised her ability to create chances and said: “It’s good to have a player who is confident and brings us the solution to scoring goals.”

After five league matches, Chelsea are second on 13 points, two behind leaders Manchester City. Arsenal are 10th with five points.
