Rishabh Pant has officially stepped down as the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) following a difficult two seasons with the franchise. The IPL team confirmed Pant's resignation via a post on X, stating they have accepted his request to relinquish the leadership role. This decision comes after LSG's poor performance in the 2026 season, where they finished at the bottom of the points table with just four wins and 10 defeats.

LSG Director of Cricket, Tom Moody, expressed gratitude for Pant's contributions as a captain and emphasized the need to focus on collective rebuilding and restructuring. 'Rishabh approached the franchise with this request and we have respectfully accepted it,' Moody stated. 'These decisions are never easy. Pant's Performance and Expectations

Pant joined LSG in a high-profile move, having been acquired for INR 27 crore in the player auction ahead of IPL 2025. He was expected to lead the team to success after previously playing for Delhi Capitals for eight seasons. However, his performance with the bat was inconsistent, scoring 269 runs in his first season and 312 runs in 13 innings this year. Despite a notable century score of 118*, the team's overall performance did not meet expectations, finishing seventh in the 2025 season and 10th in 2026.
