Nathaniel Brown reveals shock at €50m Bayern Munich transfer: 'I never thought they would get in touch'

Nathaniel Brown has revealed he was left completely surprised when Bayern Munich came calling for his signature during the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old Germany international completed a reported €50m switch from Eintracht Frankfurt shortly after the 2026 World Cup. Despite his rapid rise, Brown admitted that joining the Bavarian giants was not something he anticipated happening so soon.

"To be perfectly honest, I never thought Bayern would get in touch with me. And then it all happened so quickly," Brown explained in an interview with Bayern's club magazine, 51.

"When my agent told me about their interest, I said straight away: I don't want to hear about anything else. I'm from Bavaria, I can stay in Germany and join the best team in the country – one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Brown, who made 75 appearances for Frankfurt while registering seven goals and 12 assists primarily as a left-back, credited his discussions with manager Vincent Kompany and the club hierarchy for sealing the deal.

"On top of that, there were the talks with the club and the coach. And my family and friends are all big Bayern fans too," he added. "So, there was no question about it. It was immediately clear to me that I wanted to join Bayern."

Since arriving in Munich, Brown has showcased remarkable versatility under Kompany, featuring both as a left-back and in an advanced number 10 role across six appearances. He announced himself in style by scoring on his competitive debut against Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.

Bayern have enjoyed an explosive, unbeaten start to their 2026-27 campaign, winning six of their opening seven fixtures across all competitions while racking up 25 goals. Following the international break, they return to Bundesliga action against Augsburg before hosting Viking in the UEFA Champions League.
