The race has also provided unique cultural exchanges. Ahead of the inaugural 2016 race, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso served as the official ambassador, trying his hand at traditional carpet weaving at the Azer Ilme Carpet Weaving Centre and exploring the capital city on a mountain bike.
