Gabbia’s three-month layoff pushes Milan back into Inácio talks
Gabbia injury turns Milan’s January search into a necessity
Milan have elevated the search for a centre-back to the top of their January priorities after Matteo Gabbia sustained a tear to his left hamstring, with partial tendon involvement. He is expected to be sidelined for at least three months.
The club’s medical staff have opted for rest and therapy rather than surgery. The conservative approach is expected to offer a quicker recovery, but comes with fewer guarantees, according to the report. Gabbia’s absence leaves Ruben Amorim short of defensive options, making a mid-season signing a pressing need rather than an optional addition.

Inácio returns to the shortlist
Milan have reopened contact with the representatives of Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio, hoping to revive a move that fell through on the final day of the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old is said to be open to reuniting with Amorim, his former coach in Lisbon, but Sporting are expected to demand a substantial fee.
Milan believe an offer above €40 million may be required, and that figure might still not be enough to secure a deal.
Kim remains an alternative
Kim Min-jae is another option under consideration. The former Napoli defender has made only three appearances for Bayern Munich this season and, according to the report, appears to have lost some of the club and coach’s backing. Milan have made enquiries with his representatives and could pursue the South Korean if he becomes available on favourable terms.
