Despite this, he maintained a strong record of 27 goals and 22 assists in 207 total appearances for the Italian club. His arrival coincides with Madrid's significant summer recruitment drive, which already includes free transfers for Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate, as well as the €60 million acquisition of Marc Cucurella. With these additions, the LaLiga giants are poised to revamp their full-back positions ahead of Jose Mourinho's anticipated return as manager for the 2026-27 season. The 1.88m tall defender will look to build on his World Cup 2022 performances, where he started all four matches for the Netherlands, contributing two assists as they topped Group A before a penalty shootout exit to Morocco in the round of 32. His competitive debut for Madrid could come against Real Sociedad in the opening weekend of LaLiga 2026-27 on August 15-16.
