PSG hit by triple injury blow as Dembele, Kvaratskhelia and Marquinhos forced off against Barcelona
Paris Saint-Germain were dealt three huge injury blows in their heavyweight Champions League showdown with Barcelona at the Parc des Princes, as Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and captain Marquinhos were all forced from the pitch.
Dembele's night ends early
Dembele was withdrawn on the 20-minute mark after suffering a hamstring problem. The Frenchman, who won the Ballon d'Or in 2025, signalled to the bench that he needed to be replaced as he held the back of his left thigh while grimacing before hitting the deck. PSG manager Luis Enrique immediately turned to his bench.
Spain's World Cup-winner Ferran Torres, who joined PSG from Barcelona in the summer, came on for Dembele. The 29-year-old's lay-off will raise familiar fears given his chequered fitness history — something Barcelona know all too well, with injury issues plaguing his six years at the Camp Nou.
Kvaratskhelia and Marquinhos follow
Kvaratskhelia and Marquinhos then suffered their injuries in quick succession. The Georgian winger sustained a knee problem and required two PSG team doctors to help carry him off the field, with summer signing Maghnes Akliouche introduced in his place. Brazilian defender and skipper Marquinhos emerged from a challenge visibly hurt.
All three have been at the heart of PSG's back-to-back Champions League triumphs, with Dembele in particular being conserved for the competition by Enrique's sparing use of the Frenchman in Ligue 1 — he had already been rested twice this campaign before the Barcelona tie.
Barcelona's own casualty
Barcelona also endured an injury blow during the first half, with Dani Olmo forced off after having his ankle trodden on.
The scale of the injuries will be assessed in the coming days, but the trio of early withdrawals leaves PSG facing a significant fitness crisis at a critical stage of the European campaign.
