MI player who left IPL due to injury joins national team's Test squad; set to play against England
New Zealand's Mitchell Santner Returns to Test Squad for England Series
New Zealand has received a significant boost with the return of Mitchell Santner, who has recovered from a shoulder injury sustained during the IPL while playing for Mumbai Indians. The 34-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder had initially been ruled out of the one-off Test against Ireland and the opening Test against England due to a grade-three shoulder injury. However, after a month of rehabilitation, he has now recovered and arrived in the UK on Saturday.
Santner is set to join the New Zealand squad ahead of the first Test at Lord's Cricket Ground, which begins on June 4. The injury occurred while he was fielding for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, and the franchise had later signed Keshav Maharaj as his replacement.
New Zealand's recent performance against Ireland was notable, with an innings victory achieved in less than three days. Nathan Smith and Blair Tickner played key roles with the ball, while Daryl Mitchell contributed with his medium pace. Fast bowler Matt Henry missed the Ireland Test due to a minor hamstring strain but has now joined the squad in London along with Kyle Jamieson and Will O'Rourke to prepare for the England series.
England will begin the series without having played a Test since the Ashes ended in January. The return of Santner is a major positive for New Zealand as they look to maintain their strong form and challenge England in the upcoming Test series.
