S Meghana retires from all cricket at 30 after 20 India caps and three WPL seasons

India batter S Meghana has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket at the age of 30, closing a career that spanned three ODIs, 17 T20Is and three seasons of the Women's Premier League.

The right-hander, who last represented India in 2022 and made her final WPL appearance in 2025, confirmed the decision in an emotional Instagram post, saying gratitude rather than sadness defined her departure.

"As I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket as a player, my heart is overflowing with gratitude," Meghana wrote. "The field has been my second home, teaching me resilience, humility, and giving me memories and friendships that I will carry for a lifetime."

A career in numbers

Meghana made her T20I debut against the West Indies in Vijayawada in November 2016, before earning her ODI cap against New Zealand in Queenstown in February 2022. She finished her white-ball international career with a half-century in each format — 114 runs in three ODIs and 258 runs across 17 T20Is.

In the WPL, Meghana began with Gujarat Giants in 2023 before moving to Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. She played 15 matches in total, scoring 302 runs with one half-century.

Staying in the game

Despite stepping away from playing, Meghana made clear her connection to cricket will continue. She signalled an intention to mentor the next generation and give back to a sport that shaped her life.

"While my cricket days come to an end, my bond with cricket will never break. I will always stay deeply connected to the game and intend to dedicate my life to giving back to the sport, mentoring the next generation, and serving the game that gave me everything," she wrote.

Meghana's announcement adds her name to a growing list of players stepping away from the professional game in recent weeks, though her decision comes at her own choosing rather than through injury or personal struggle.
