Litton Das scans show no major damage as Nayeem Hasan awaits fitness test

Bangladesh receive encouraging injury updates ahead of West Indies Tests

Scans on Bangladesh ODI captain Litton Das have found no significant problem in his hip joint, offering some encouragement ahead of the team’s upcoming Test series against the West Indies. The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s medical staff will monitor him for the next couple of days before giving a clearer update on his availability.

Litton Das has been ruled out of Bangladesh's ongoing ODI tri-series with a hip issue

Litton was ruled out of the ongoing tri-nation ODI series, featuring Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, after experiencing discomfort in his hip. He visited Bangladesh Cricket Board physicians on Monday and completed a light physiotherapy session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

“There was nothing significantly bad in his scan report, but there is a slight muscle issue,” a member of the BCB medical committee told Cricbuzz.

The medical official said Litton would continue with light physiotherapy and that the board hoped he could be available for the Test series, while stressing that a firm decision would depend on his progress. The first Test against the West Indies is scheduled to begin in Dhaka on October 28, with the second starting in Sylhet on November 5.

Nayeem set for October 22 assessment

Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan is also working his way back from injury and is scheduled to undergo a formal fitness test on Thursday, October 22. He sustained a right hamstring strain while fielding in Bangladesh’s one-off Test against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, when his foot caught in the outfield as he dived to stop a boundary off Taijul Islam’s bowling.

Nayeem completed that Test with his hamstring strapped, but subsequent assessment found weakness in the muscle. Medical staff placed him on a rehabilitation programme and kept him out of the current National Cricket League round to avoid risking a more serious injury.

He resumed bowling on Monday and said he felt no discomfort. “I started bowling today and didn't feel any discomfort,” Nayeem said, adding that he was looking forward to the scheduled fitness test and medical clearance.

The West Indies arrived in Dhaka on Sunday and are due to begin preparations at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. A two-day warm-up against BCB XI is scheduled to start on October 22 at Basundhara.
