Shubman Gill hits 10th ODI hundred to draw level with MS Dhoni
Shubman Gill reaches 10th ODI century, joins MS Dhoni in elite company
India captain Shubman Gill added another milestone to his burgeoning ODI career on Sunday, bringing up his 10th century in the format against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram.
Gill reached the three-figure mark with a boundary off Jayden Seales, driving the full delivery through the gap on the off side before raising his bat to acknowledge the moment. He then removed his helmet and bowed to the crowd as the fans stood up to applaud the Indian skipper.
Joining an elite list
With his 10th ODI century, Gill moved alongside MS Dhoni on the list of Indian batters with the most hundreds in the 50-over format. Remarkably, the 25-year-old has reached the landmark in just 68 ODIs and 67 innings, a rate that underscores his meteoric rise at the top of the order. He also has 20 ODI fifties to go with his 10 centuries.
The all-time Indian list remains headed by Virat Kohli, who leads with 54 hundreds, followed by Sachin Tendulkar on 49 and Rohit Sharma on 34. Gill's place alongside Dhoni, however, marks him out as the next name in a celebrated lineage of Indian one-day batters.
Making the most of a second chance
Gill's century came after he was handed a reprieve early in his innings. Keemo Paul put down a catch when Gill was on 11, and the West Indies paid a heavy price for the lapse as the India captain went on to register his 10th ODI hundred.
Another strong year in 2026
The hundred was the latest in a string of substantial scores for Gill in ODIs this year. Before this innings, his 2026 returns in the format read 56, 56, 23, 84 not out, 154, 80 not out, 31 and 77. The century in Thiruvananthapuram now adds the one big score that had been missing from an otherwise prolific run of form.
