IPL 2026 expands to 84 matches as final returns to Bengaluru on May 31
IPL 2026 set for expanded 84-match season
The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League is scheduled to become an expanded 84-match tournament, taking the competition closer to the planned 94-match format targeted for 2028.
The league stage is due to begin on March 28 and run through late May, with all 10 teams competing in a season shaped by new leadership changes, renewed local rivalries and a continued reliance on the traditional home-and-away structure.
Several franchises will also split their home fixtures between multiple venues. Royal Challengers Bengaluru are scheduled to play five matches in Bengaluru and two at their second home in Raipur. Delhi Capitals will divide their fixtures between the Arun Jaitley Stadium and Vizag, while Punjab Kings are set to move into the New Chandigarh Stadium.
Playoffs begin on May 26
The playoff phase is scheduled to start on May 26 with Qualifier 1, followed by the Eliminator and Qualifier 2. The tournament will conclude with the IPL 2026 final at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 31, a decision that places the showpiece match at the home ground of the defending champions.
Fans will be able to follow the season through live match coverage and an updated points table as teams compete for the top four positions. The schedule page will also track injury updates, breaking developments and analysis throughout the campaign.
