Jofra Archer signs one-year Sussex extension, staying at Hove until 2026 season

Jofra Archer commits to Sussex for another year

England paceman Jofra Archer has signed a one-year contract extension with Sussex, extending his stay at Hove to 12 seasons. The 31-year-old made his debut for the county in 2016 and has taken 223 first-class wickets at an average of 25.17.

A difficult road back

Following numerous injuries, Archer missed four years of red-ball cricket before returning for Sussex in June 2025. He then played his first Test since 2021 when he was named in the England team to face India in July 2025.

Archer was fit for the 2025-2026 Ashes tour to Australia, taking nine wickets before picking up a side-strain in the third Test in Adelaide. He recovered to take 23 wickets in five Test matches against New Zealand and Pakistan this summer.

Player and club react

"I have always felt at home at Sussex since making my first-class debut in 2016, and it was an easy decision to stay here for a further year," Archer told the club website.

Incoming Sussex head coach Matt Walker added: "He is a world-class fast bowler who brings something truly special to our club. Retaining a player of his calibre is hugely important to us as we look to build a successful team across all formats."

Archer has taken 83 Test wickets for England in 23 matches.
