Barcelona to open 2027-28 season at Montjuic as Camp Nou roof work continues
Barcelona are preparing to hit the road again, with the club set to start the 2027-28 campaign back at the Olympic Stadium on Montjuic. According to a report from ESPN, the Catalans will spend the first half of next season away from Camp Nou as redevelopment work at their famous home continues into a new phase.
The intention is for the team to return to Camp Nou in January 2028, meaning Barcelona could play the opening months of the season at Montjuic before making the move back across the city.
The latest spell away from Camp Nou is tied to the ongoing redevelopment of the stadium, which includes installing a new roof. Barcelona have spent significant time at the Olympic Stadium over the last few seasons, and supporters will now be braced for another extended stay on Montjuic as the club aim to finish the work.
Once Barcelona do move back in, the capacity is set to be increased to around 95,000, with the stadium finally reaching 105,000 when the redevelopment is fully completed. The club will be hoping the project stays on schedule this time, particularly as delays in the initial redevelopment work saw the team spend much longer at Montjuic than originally planned.
Camp Nou has already been confirmed as the venue for the 2029 Champions League final, while president Joan Laporta is also hoping Barcelona's home can stage the 2030 World Cup final. With those marquee events on the horizon, completing the long-awaited redevelopment on time has never been more important.
