Towhid Hridoy Eyes Fresh Start as Bangladesh Prepare for T20I Series Against Zimbabwe
Seeking Redemption in Bulawayo
Bangladesh interim T20I skipper Towhid Hridoy has expressed optimism about a fresh start as his team prepares to face Zimbabwe in a three-match T20I series beginning July 15 at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The shift to the T20 format comes at a critical time for the tourists. Bangladesh arrives in Bulawayo after a frustrating stint in Harare, where they suffered a heavy defeat in the one-off Test match by an innings and 85 runs and lost the One Day International series 2-1. However, a convincing victory in the final ODI has provided a glimmer of hope and momentum that Hridoy hopes to carry forward.
Leadership and Availability Challenges
Towhid Hridoy, who previously made his captaincy debut against Australia, will continue to lead the side. The team will remain without regular T20I captain Litton Das, who has been granted leave for the Lanka Premier League (LPL), though he is still recovering from a calf injury. Additionally, the squad will miss the services of left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained during the first ODI in Harare.
Focus on Adaptation and Process
Despite the setbacks, Hridoy remains confident in the squad's ability to perform in the shorter format. "Well look, there are two sides of the game-either we lose or we win, but it's a different format and a different venue so if we play good cricket then hopefully we will get (our desired) result," Hridoy stated.
Addressing the challenge of playing in Zimbabwe, Hridoy noted: "In home conditions, Zimbabwe is a good team. There is a little bit of challenge here and there but we know our strength so hopefully we will bounce back from the mistakes." He emphasized the importance of professionalism and adaptability, citing the colder weather and unique wicket conditions as factors the team must navigate.
The captain reiterated a step-by-step approach for the series, stating, "Everything has a process. It will be wise to think about one match at a time." The series opener is set for July 15, with the subsequent matches scheduled for July 17 and 19 at the same venue.
