PSG target third straight Ligue 1 win as Luis Enrique demands climb up the table

PSG look to extend their recovery

Paris Saint-Germain will aim for a third consecutive Ligue 1 victory when they host Le Mans, with Luis Enrique insisting his priority is to keep moving up the table.

The champions began the campaign without a win in their first three league games, drawing twice before losing 2-1 to Monaco. Successive victories over Brest and Marseille have lifted PSG to sixth, five points behind early leaders Monaco.

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique

“We want to climb the table,” Luis Enrique said, recalling PSG’s 2-0 Coupe de France win over Le Mans in February 2025. “They’re a real team who plays good football. But we’re at the Parc des Princes, with our fans, and we want to climb the table. That’s why we’re going to go for the three points.”

Le Mans pose a threat

Le Mans have made a solid return to the top flight after promotion from Ligue 2. They have lost only once in five matches, and their 2-1 win over Lorient before the international break was their first of the season. Sitting 10th on six points, they could move above PSG with a victory.

PSG have created plenty of attacking activity in Ligue 1 this season, leading the competition through their first five matches with 106 shots and 175 touches in the opposition box. Vitinha has registered 10 shots from outside the area, while Ousmane Dembele has eight; each total is among the league’s top three, although Vitinha has scored once so far. For Le Mans, Adil Bourabaa is the only player to have scored more than once in the opening 15 minutes of a Ligue 1 match this season, with two goals.

Recent records offer mixed signals

PSG have won 10 of their 15 meetings with Le Mans in all competitions, drawing three and losing two. Their last Ligue 1 meeting was in May 2010, when Le Mans won 1-0 at home.

PSG’s two-match league winning streak is their best current run, while Le Mans have lost only one of their last eight away Ligue 1 games. The pre-match Opta forecast gives PSG an 80.8% chance of victory, with a draw at 11.3% and a Le Mans win at 7.9%.
