Dortmund's goal drought deepens as Ricken and Book admit disappointment after Bodo/Glimt defeat

For the very first time, a meeting between Union Berlin and Borussia Dortmund produced no winner — and the concern for the Black and Yellows runs deeper than a single point dropped.

Borussia Dortmund in action during their recent matches

Dortmund followed up their goalless Bundesliga stalemate at Union Berlin with another blank in a Champions League defeat to Bodø/Glimt on the competition's second matchday on Wednesday. The result means the Black and Yellows have now failed to find the net in successive games.

"We are naturally dissatisfied," said managing director for sport Lars Ricken in his post-match interview at the Försterei. "I believe that the team accepted the challenge here, played very intensely and very aggressively from the start. As a result, the game was somewhat disjointed."

Sporting director Ole Book echoed the sentiment. "We're disappointed as we had higher expectations," Book said. "To exploit the space behind the defense, you have to play a bit more boldly all over the pitch. We started doing that far too late. That's the issue we need to address."

The frustration comes with pressure mounting on head coach Niko Kovac, who is yet to win a game since his contract extension.

Dortmund will have the chance to end their goal drought on Tuesday when they travel to face Champions League debutants Sabah. Their next Bundesliga fixture is against Eintracht Frankfurt in next week's Topspiel.
