Steve Evans vows to stay at Bristol Rovers despite Hibernian links

Evans dismisses Hibernian speculation

Steve Evans has reaffirmed his commitment to Bristol Rovers after being linked with the vacant Hibernian manager’s job.

Evans, who took charge at the Memorial Stadium last December, said there had been “no contact” from the Scottish Premiership club and insisted: “I’m not going anywhere.”

The 63-year-old guided Bristol Rovers to safety in League Two last season before signing a new contract in April that runs until 2028. The Gas have made a strong start this campaign, sitting sixth after four wins from their opening seven matches, although they lost 3-0 at Gillingham on Saturday for a second successive defeat.

“I’ve come here to deliver on a project,” Evans told BBC Radio Bristol. “It doesn’t feel like that driving home this evening - but my commitment is to this football club.”

Only one Scottish club could tempt Evans

Evans has never managed in Scotland during a 32-year coaching career, despite having played for Clyde, Albion Rovers, Ayr United, Hamilton Academical and St Johnstone.

The lifelong Celtic supporter said he would only consider leaving Bristol Rovers for “a certain team in Glasgow” or the Scotland national team.

“There’s only one club I would leave this for and of course my country because everyone would manage their country,” he said. “I don’t think I’ll get either of those jobs now but that’s the only team I’d go north of the border for.”
