Arteta’s new Arsenal deal cements his grip on the club

A contract that confirms Arteta’s standing

Mikel Arteta has committed his future to Arsenal until 2030, signing a four-year contract that underlines his position as the club’s central decision-maker. The deal is understood to be worth more than £20m a season, making him the Premier League’s highest-paid manager, according to the report.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal manager

Arteta said the agreement was “only the beginning” of what Arsenal hope will become a sustained period of success. The length of the contract would take him beyond a decade in charge, having been appointed in December 2019 after serving as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.

Influence reaches beyond the touchline

His authority has expanded as senior figures have left, and he is reported to have a direct line to co-chair Josh Kroenke and a major say in decisions on and off the pitch. Arsenal’s decision against a major Emirates Stadium expansion followed concerns attributed to Arteta about the disruption of a temporary relocation. The report says the club’s owners were also deterred by the cost of proposals to raise capacity to 70,000.

Arteta is also understood to have backed the decision not to pursue Belgium forward Malick Fofana during the final days of the transfer window, with the manager keen to preserve opportunities for 16-year-old Max Dowman. The report notes that the call came even after Andrea Berta arrived as sporting director in March 2025.

Arsenal target another title and Europe

The new deal follows Arsenal’s Premier League triumph in May and a run to last season’s Champions League final, where they lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties. Arteta’s immediate ambitions include making Arsenal consecutive league champions for the first time since the 1930s and winning the club’s first European Cup.

The report also describes the manager’s attention to detail through Win, the therapy dog he introduced at the training ground in 2023. “I carefully chose the dog and in my opinion it’s the perfect representative of who we are right now,” Arteta said at the time. It is a personal detail that reflects the broader influence he has built at Arsenal: the new contract gives him both time and authority to pursue the next stage of the club’s project.
