Juventus re-sign goalkeeper Neto on free transfer after Grabara suffers season-ending injury

Juventus have announced the return of goalkeeper Neto on a free transfer, bringing the veteran shot-stopper back to Turin nine years after he left for Valencia. The 37-year-old has signed a contract until the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

Grabara injury forces Juventus into action

The move comes after Kamil Grabara, on loan at the club from Wolfsburg, was ruled out for the rest of the season through injury. The Polish goalkeeper sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury just two days after making his Juventus debut — a match in which he assisted Nico Gonzalez's opener during a 5-0 win over NEC in the Europa League.

Grabara has since undergone successful surgery to repair the issue, but with the season-ending diagnosis confirmed, Juventus needed to find an experienced replacement between the posts.

Quick business during the international break

Having allowed both Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin to leave the club, Juventus acted swiftly to bolster their goalkeeping options during the international break, turning to a familiar face who arrives without a transfer fee.

A winning pedigree in Turin

Neto is no stranger to the Allianz Stadium. During his previous stint with Juventus from 2015 to 2017, he made 22 appearances across all competitions, keeping 12 clean sheets and winning five major honours.

Since his exit nine years ago, the Brazilian has gone on to represent Valencia, Barcelona, Bournemouth, Arsenal and, most recently, Botafogo.

What next for Juventus?

Juventus currently sit seventh in Serie A after their first five games of the season. They return to action following the international break with a clash against Cagliari on October 11.
