Verstappen to 2030, Norris to 2030: F1 driver contracts laid out from front to back of the grid

Who is signed up for 2027 and beyond?

One of the hottest topics in every Formula 1 season is the future of the drivers. Some are close to their contract expiry, some are on short-term deals and others have signed long-term commitments. Here is where every driver's contract currently stands.

Formula 1 driver contracts overview

McLaren

Lando Norris: 2030

Norris is contesting his eighth season in F1, and his first at McLaren, with driver and team staying loyal to each other. In August 2026 he announced a deal that keeps him at the Papaya team until at least the end of 2030, a 12-season stint with the squad by then. Prior coverage from the New York Times/The Athletic (published 2026-08-29) reported that McLaren team principal Andrea Stella said Norris was getting "stronger and stronger race by race" after his Dutch Grand Prix win.

Oscar Piastri: 'Multi-year' deal

Piastri has been locked down by McLaren until at least the end of the 2027 season, and possibly longer. As with any contract, there are likely to be various options and clauses on both sides.

Mercedes

George Russell: 2027

Russell has raced for Mercedes since 2022, spending three seasons alongside Lewis Hamilton and 2025 alongside newcomer Kimi Antonelli. After lengthy negotiations with team boss Toto Wolff, his latest deal, taking him through at least 2026, was confirmed last October. Earlier this season he offered more detail on his contract situation:

"I will be here next year with the team and that's that. There's not really much more to say.

It's a multi-year deal. It's numerous years, as we said last year, and often in a lot of these contracts, even if metrics aren't hit, if things are happy then you continue, but as I said, metrics will very likely be hit."

Kimi Antonelli: 2027

Mercedes kept an unchanged line-up by retaining Italian teenager Antonelli, whose rookie campaign featured incredible highs and painful lows, as well as persistent off-track speculation linking Mercedes to Red Bull's Max Verstappen. It is understood Antonelli has been retained for a third season and will form an unchanged line-up with Russell in 2027.

Red Bull

Max Verstappen: 2030

After months of speculation over his future, with his management known to have held talks with McLaren, Verstappen committed to a new deal that keeps him at Red Bull until the end of 2030. It builds on his previous contract, which ran through to 2028. Although the team have lost their control on the field over the last couple of seasons, the extension signals Verstappen's belief that they will fight for titles in the near future.

Isack Hadjar: 2027

Hadjar earned promotion to Red Bull for 2026 after an impressive rookie term at Racing Bulls, and delivered the regular points finishes needed for a contract extension for 2027, despite missing three rounds with a wrist injury. He produced a podium finish in Monaco and a charge from P21 to P6 at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Ferrari

Charles Leclerc: 'Multi-year' deal beyond 2028

Leclerc agreed a new multi-year deal with Ferrari ahead of the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix. Sources say it runs beyond the end of 2028, keeping him at the team into his 30s and for at least a decade, with likely mechanisms to extend further if both sides agree.

Lewis Hamilton: 'Multi-year' deal

Hamilton's switch from Mercedes to Ferrari was also announced under a multi-year headline. There have been suggestions the deal runs for three years, through 2027, which is the length of contract he pursued at the Silver Arrows.

Williams

Alex Albon: 2027

A former Red Bull driver, Albon returned to F1 with Williams in 2022 and has made the Grove-based team his home. He signed a new deal ahead of the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix that runs until the end of 2027, extending his status as the driver with the most starts for Williams.

Carlos Sainz: 'Multi-year' deal

Williams won the race to sign Ferrari's proven Grand Prix winner Sainz for 2025. He has since agreed a second multi-year contract, understood to run until the end of 2028, though clauses are believed to allow him to leave earlier. The announcement came shortly after Albon's, giving Williams stability as they prepare for 2027.

Racing Bulls

Liam Lawson: 2026

Lawson has been rebuilding his F1 career after a rapid-fire Red Bull promotion and demotion last year. He found form at Racing Bulls as 2025 developed, became a frequent points scorer, and secured another season at the team for 2026.

Arvid Lindblad: 2026

Lindblad is the latest Red Bull prospect to reach F1, starting with a Racing Bulls seat through 2026. The 18-year-old became the third-youngest driver in F1 history, and the youngest British driver, to score points on his debut in Australia.

Aston Martin

Fernando Alonso: 2026

At 44, Alonso is the oldest driver on the grid. The two-time World Champion is continuing at Aston Martin for at least the 2026 season under the multi-year deal he committed to in early 2024.

Lance Stroll: 2026

Stroll has filled a seat at his father Lawrence's team for several years, dating back to 2019 and Aston Martin's previous Racing Point guise. His latest extension was confirmed midway through 2024, and he is likely to stay put while his father is at the helm.

Haas

Esteban Ocon: 'Multi-year' deal

Haas signed an all-new driver pairing last year after parting ways with Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen. Grand Prix winner Ocon formed half of that line-up on a multi-year agreement.

Ollie Bearman: 'Multi-year' deal

Bearman announced himself with a stand-in performance for Ferrari at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which helped earn him a full-time seat at Ayao Komatsu's squad for 2025, again on undisclosed multi-year terms.

Audi

Nico Hulkenberg: 'Multi-year' deal

Hulkenberg left Haas for Audi's incoming F1 project in 2025 on a multi-year deal, with options believed to give him the chance to race for the German manufacturer into his 40s if the partnership works as planned.

Gabriel Bortoleto: 'Multi-year' deal

Bortoleto, a back-to-back F3 and F2 champion who is also part of Alonso's management stable, is signed to the squad through at least the 2026 season.

Alpine

Pierre Gasly: 2028

Gasly has been at Alpine since 2023, when he cut ties with the Red Bull family. He agreed a fresh multi-year deal last September that runs until at least the end of 2028.

Franco Colapinto: 2027

Former Williams super-sub Colapinto returned to F1 with Alpine in early 2025, replacing Jack Doohan. After a bumpy start he kept his seat alongside Gasly into 2026. This year he has visibly stepped up, scoring 19 points, and has been rewarded with a contract extension into 2027.

Cadillac

Valtteri Bottas: 'Multi-year' deal

Bottas spent 2025 in a back-up role at Mercedes after losing his seat at Kick Sauber.
