Manchester City to face struggling Arsenal in Sky Sports WSL headline clash this weekend
Sky Sports shows six WSL games live this Sunday, capped by City v Arsenal
Sky Sports is the official home of the Women’s Super League this weekend with six matches broadcast live on Sunday, culminating in Manchester City vs Arsenal at 4.30pm.
Man City to hand further punishment to Slegers and Arsenal?
Manchester City host Arsenal at the Academy Stadium on Sunday, kick-off 4.30pm live on Sky Sports, with City top of the WSL unbeaten since April under Andree Jeglertz.
Arsenal arrive winless in each of their last three league outings after blowing a two-goal lead in Paris to draw 2-2 in midweek Champions League action. Renee Slegers has come in for criticism and the preview notes the pressure on the Gunners boss ahead of the showpiece.
"City are unlikely to take pity; if they sense even a flicker of vulnerability, they will go for the kill," the preview says. A defeat on Sunday would leave Arsenal ten points behind City, a deficit described as rarely surmountable.
United v Liverpool and the rest of the Sunday slate
Manchester United host Liverpool on Saturday, kick-off 1.30pm, with Eva Olid’s side looking to build on their first WSL win of the season over West Ham.
The preview highlights summer signing Andrea Medina as carrying the torch for United, and notes Ella Toone playing "with an axe to grind after her latest England snub".
Tottenham vs London City Lionesses kicks off Sunday at 2pm live on Sky Sports. Spurs have amassed 2.4 points per game since the start of April, with London City close behind on 2.1. Alexia Putellas is tipped to thrive for the visitors in open phases.
"Her strike in victory over Brighton last week signals she is beginning to settle into new surroundings and that has the power to create a domino effect," the preview adds. The Spaniard has ended on the winning side in 129 of the last 130 league games she has scored in.
West Ham vs Chelsea is also live at 2pm on Sunday. Chelsea have conceded just once in the WSL this season, the fewest of any side, with Sonia Bompastor’s side ticking games off efficiently.
"Excluding own goals, Chelsea boast the joint-most goalscorers in the division (8)." Bompastor is pursuing the ruthless edge that appeared lost when Emma Hayes departed.
Relegation and mid-table battles
Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace is live at 2pm on Sunday. Villa are winless in each of their last eight WSL outings, a run which led to Natalia Arroyo losing her job this week as the first managerial casualty of the season. The club also lost top-scorer Kirsty Hanson to Tottenham in the summer.
Both Villa and Palace have shipped a league-high 10 goals each this term, facing a combined 223 shots against. Interim boss Brian Sorensen’s focus is described as addressing that shortfall.
Brighton host Charlton at 2pm. Charlton are the only team without a point this season, managing just two shots on target and one goal. Brighton are winless in seven under Arturo Ruiz.
Everton vs Birmingham City closes the Sunday coverage at 2pm. Everton have won two games without scoring, 360 minutes passing without a Toffees player finding the net in the top flight. Birmingham’s Oceane Hurtre has scored four already and can be decisive as the Blues chase their first win since returning to the WSL.
All six Sunday games are available live on Sky Sports channels, with in-game clips and highlights across Sky’s digital coverage.
