Fermín López gives his verdict on Mourinho’s post-derby protest

Barcelona midfielder Fermín López has dismissed José Mourinho’s headline-making reaction to Real Madrid’s derby defeat by Atlético Madrid, describing the coach’s public complaints as part of his familiar approach to dealing with the media.

Mourinho attracted widespread attention after the loss at the Metropolitano, openly criticising the officiating and presenting a printout showing two challenges he believed should have resulted in red cards. He also aimed criticism at referee Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias and his team of officials.

Speaking to Tot Costa while on international duty with Spain, Fermín said Mourinho’s actions came as no surprise.

“I think it’s his show. He’s been doing it since 2011. It’s his way of expressing himself with the media, and it’s totally respectable.”

The Barcelona midfielder also stressed that his team were not allowing events at Real Madrid to distract them from their own objectives.

“We try not to look too much at Real Madrid or the other teams. We focus on our work, our momentum and trying to keep improving.”

Fermín’s comments come as the rivalry continues to generate attention away from the pitch, with Mourinho’s post-match conduct once again becoming a major talking point in Spanish football.
