Chinese Grand Prix Betting Predictions: Antonelli Favored for Maiden Win

Kimi Antonelli celebrating pole position at the Chinese Grand Prix

With lights out approaching at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, betting experts have released their final predictions for Sunday's race, highlighting Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli as the favorite to secure his maiden Formula 1 victory from pole position.

Antonelli Leads the Pack

The Italian teenager claimed his first Grand Prix pole during qualifying at the Shanghai International Circuit and is priced with bookmakers at 7/4 (2.75, +175) to convert that advantage into a race win. Antonelli made the most of technical issues suffered by teammate George Russell, whose only attempt in Q3 fell 0.222 seconds short of the pole time.

"His attempt was still enough to make it back-to-back Mercedes lockouts on the front row," according to F1's betting analysis, with Russell currently priced at 13/20 (1.65, -154) to win in China. The Mercedes duo are in a strong position to push for more points on Sunday.

Ferrari Closing the Gap

Ferrari appears to have made significant progress since the Australian Grand Prix, with both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc filling the second row in Shanghai, just 0.3 seconds behind Antonelli. Hamilton is priced at 8/1 (9.0, +800) for his first Grand Prix win since Silverstone in 2024, while Leclerc sits at 9/1 (10.0, +900).

"Looking back to Australia, Ferrari were left a little disappointed in Qualifying with Leclerc finishing fifth and more than eight-tenths of a second off Russell's pole lap," the analysis notes. "Fast-forward one week and the gap was much smaller in Shanghai."

The Scuderia are reportedly even more competitive in race trim and caused major problems for Mercedes in the early laps in Melbourne. Bookmakers are offering Leclerc and Hamilton to both be on the podium at 13/8 (2.63, +163), an interesting bet for racing fans to consider.

McLaren's Midfield Advantage

While race pace seems to be less of a strength for defending Constructors' Champions McLaren in Shanghai, they could still benefit from Red Bull's struggles this weekend. Both Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar risk being swallowed up into the midfield battle, potentially giving McLaren extra breathing room.

"McLaren will want to challenge Mercedes and Ferrari at the front of the race, with Red Bull's issues potentially giving them some extra breathing room behind," the analysis states. Norris and Oscar Piastri are 11/8 (2.38, +138) to pick up at least 11 points in the Chinese Grand Prix.

Bearman's Big Price Opportunity

Haas driver Oliver Bearman began the season with an excellent seventh-place finish in the Australian Grand Prix and starts from 10th place on the grid in China. The young Brit, who also picked up a point for finishing eighth in Saturday's Sprint, is 3/4 (1.75, -133) for another top-10 finish.

However, experts suggest the 11/2 (6.5, +550) odds for him sneaking into the top six could be worth considering. "The Brit managed three top-six finishes in the final 10 races of last season and, while he may struggle to break into that group on sheer pace, there is plenty of scope for drama ahead of him that he needs to be ready to benefit from," according to the betting analysis.

With Antonelli making a poor start in the Sprint race and Russell hitting mechanical trouble during qualifying, Ferrari will be looking to capitalize on any Silver Arrows slip-ups. The stage is set for an intriguing battle at the Shanghai International Circuit as Formula 1 returns to China.
