Barcelona are preparing to temporarily vacate the Spotify Camp Nou once again as ongoing renovation work enters its final major structural phase, club treasurer and economic vice-president Ferran Olivé has confirmed.

The Catalan giants initially shut their iconic ground in the summer of 2023 for a massive, overdue overhaul before returning following several logistical delays. However, completing the full architectural design will require another brief departure from their home ground.

Roof Installation Necessitates Temporary Relocation

The primary reason for the impending move stems from the intricate logistics of installing the stadium's new roof structure. According to architectural and engineering plans, building materials must be positioned directly where the pitch is located.

As detailed in a report by The Athletic, ‘To fit the roof and finish the stadium completely, the team will need to leave. Design plans mean the roof has to be built from inside the stadium, requiring building materials to be stationed where the Camp Nou pitch is.’

Under the timetable outlined by Olivé, Hansi Flick's squad will move out for the first half of next season, with the club targeting a definitive return to a fully completed Spotify Camp Nou in January 2028.
