Barcelona widen striker search to Viktor Gyökeres

Barcelona have reportedly identified Arsenal forward Viktor Gyökeres as an alternative target after their pursuit of Atlético Madrid striker Julián Alvarez failed to produce an agreement.

The La Liga champions are looking for reinforcements at centre-forward after saying goodbye to Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres. With Alvarez previously the most prominent name linked to a move to Camp Nou, Barcelona have now broadened their options following the lack of progress with Atlético Madrid.

Journalist Jose Alvarez of El Chiringuito TV reported that movement could come soon, saying: In the coming hours, movements are expected regarding Gyokeres at Barcelona. The forward is considered an alternative after Ferran’s departure, and his situation will be explored.

Gyökeres’ reported emergence as an alternative does not amount to confirmation that Barcelona have made a formal offer. The club’s interest instead reflects a renewed search for a leading striker capable of filling the attacking vacancy ahead of the new season.
