Seven-hour talks convinced Marink Reedijk to take the Hibs job

Reedijk says lengthy board meeting sealed his decision to join Hibernian

Marink Reedijk was won over by Hibernian after a seven-hour meeting with the club’s board in London, the new manager has said.

The 35-year-old Dutchman is preparing to take charge of Hibs for the first time on Saturday, when they travel to face Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership. He has spent the past two weeks getting acquainted with the club, including joining the squad for a warm-weather training camp in Spain.

Reedijk described his introduction as “very intense”, but said the discussions gave him a clear sense of the club and its ambitions. The meeting covered his approach to football, how Hibs view management and how both sides could work together.

“Very good conversations and very intense conversations about everything really,” Reedijk said. “That was for me also one of the reasons to come here because it is a special club.”

He said his first impressions had been shaped by the people around Easter Road, adding that the club felt like a family. Hibs are 10th in the Premiership, and Reedijk made clear that winning is central to his immediate aims.

Building a shared identity is also a priority

“Win as many matches as possible for me,” he said, while acknowledging that results alone would not define the project. Reedijk wants players, staff and supporters to share a stronger collective identity, both on and off the pitch.

The appointment is Reedijk’s first managerial role in a top-tier league. He arrives in Edinburgh after leaving Belgian side Beveren, whom he guided to promotion last season. He described Scottish football as a compelling challenge, pointing to its passion, tradition and competitive nature.

“Everybody can win from everybody,” he said, calling the league “such a good challenge in order to grow also as a human being.”
