Essex sign wicketkeeper George Bell on permanent two-year deal

Essex have signed wicketkeeper George Bell from Lancashire on a permanent two-year deal, following a productive loan spell at the club at the end of the 2026 season.

George Bell, Essex wicketkeeper

The 24-year-old made three Essex appearances at the end of the 2026 campaign, scoring a half-century in each innings and finishing in the 60s on every occasion.

'An environment that will help me develop'

Bell told the club's website that he believed the move would help him progress as a player.

"I believe this is an environment that will help me to develop my game further and hopefully contribute to Essex wins and trophies," Bell said.

Impressive record so far

Bell made his first-class debut for Lancashire in 2022 and has represented England at under-21 level. Across 37 first-class matches, he has scored more than 1,400 runs, including nine half-centuries, with a high score of 99.

Praise from Essex

Essex's director of cricket, Chris Silverwood, praised the player's approach both on and off the field.

"Not only were George's performances impressive on the field, but the way he carried himself, his attitude, work ethic and mindset also impressed us," Silverwood said. "We felt George had more than earned the opportunity to join us on a permanent deal, and we are delighted to now have him. He has already shown what he can bring to the team, and we are all excited about his addition to the squad."
