Amit Mishra returns to Delhi Capitals as spin bowling coach
Veteran leggie completes Delhi's coaching jigsaw
Veteran spinner Amit Mishra has returned to the Delhi Capitals as their spin bowling coach, the franchise confirmed. The appointment slots one of the most prolific Indian leg-spinners of his generation into a backroom staff that has been overhauled wholesale in recent weeks.

Mishra joins a rapidly expanding roster of former internationals on the Delhi support staff: Sourav Ganguly (head coach), Yuvraj Singh (assistant coach and batting coach) and Chaminda Vaas (fast bowling coach), all brought in during a comprehensive shake-up of the franchise's coaching set-up.
A career spent largely in Delhi blue
Mishra brings rich IPL pedigree to the role. He has played 162 matches across 16 seasons, stretching back to the inaugural 2007 edition. He began his IPL career at the same franchise — then known as the Delhi Daredevils — and spent 10 of his 16 seasons with them.
The 41-year-old, who last appeared in the tournament in 2024, finishes his playing career with 174 IPL wickets, including a best of 5 for 17. He also stands alone as the only player in IPL history to claim three hat-tricks, each for a different team: Delhi Daredevils in 2008, Deccan Chargers in 2011 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013. Tellingly, his new colleague Yuvraj Singh is one of only two players to have taken two IPL hat-tricks (in 2009).
Spin depth set to benefit
The move is timely for Delhi's growing spin stocks. The franchise's newest recruit, left-arm wrist spinner Zeeshan Ansari, arrived in a trade with Sunrisers Hyderabad that sent T Natarajan the other way, and will now have a specialist of Mishra's standing to learn from. Leg-spinners Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed are also poised to gain should DC retain them for next year's tournament.
The broader reshape at Delhi has also touched the playing squad: as reported on 17 October 2026, Rishabh Pant returned to the set-up while T Natarajan exited, part of the same rebuild being overseen by head coach Sourav Ganguly ahead of the 2027 IPL season.
