Megan Schutt banned for two matches over prescription medication breach

Megan Schutt banned for two matches over prescription medication breach

Australian fast bowler Megan Schutt has been handed a two-match suspension by Cricket Australia after breaching the sport's prescription medication guidelines, the governing body confirmed on Wednesday.

Megan Schutt will miss the third T20I against New Zealand and the WBBL 2026 opener for Adelaide Strikers

In a statement, Cricket Australia said the sanction followed a failure to comply with its medical protocols rather than any doping offence. “The breach was a failure to adhere to requirements under the Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines with regard to prescription medication,” the statement read.

The governing body was at pains to stress the seriousness was limited in nature. “This relates to a single incidence which occurred while out of competition and was not for performance enhancing purposes,” Cricket Australia said. “We will continue to provide appropriate support to Megan and reinforce the standards and responsibilities expected of everyone representing our game.”

What the ban means

The suspension applies across all international and domestic cricket, whichever comes first. As a result, the 33-year-old pacer will miss the third and final T20I against New Zealand at North Sydney Oval on Thursday (October 22), as well as the WBBL 2026 season opener for Adelaide Strikers against Melbourne Stars on October 31.

Schutt accepts the penalty

The player issued an apology and accepted full responsibility for the breach. “I fully accept the penalty handed down and apologise for failing to meet the standards expected of me,” Schutt said.

“I'm sorry for the attention this has caused and appreciate the support I've received,” the 33-year-old added. “While this occurred out of competition and was not performance related, I understand that I am responsible for following the Sports Science and Sports Medicine Guidelines, which players receive regular education on, and I should have adhered to these guidelines.”
