Amazon Warriors’ bowlers set up another emphatic win

Guyana Amazon Warriors continued their unbeaten start to CPL 2026 with a clinical seven-wicket victory over Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, handing the hosts their first home defeat of the season.

After winning the toss, Guyana produced another disciplined bowling performance and bowled Antigua and Barbuda out for 116 in 17 overs. Khary Pierre struck twice in the Powerplay, dismissing Rahkeem Cornwall and Karima Gore, although the Falcons reached 49 before the fielding restrictions ended.

Amir Jangoo and Hasan Nawaz briefly steadied the innings with a 40-run third-wicket partnership. Hasan Nawaz was then dismissed after a spectacular catch by Glenn Phillips, and the Falcons struggled to build momentum against Guyana’s spinners. Glenn Phillips also removed Amir Jangoo, while Shamar Joseph ended Joshua James’ rapid three-ball 10.

The collapse intensified late in the innings. Kusal Perera, who had hurt his right leg while diving, was run out following a mix-up with Shadab Khan. The Falcons lost their final five wickets for just eight runs from 15 deliveries, with Shamar Joseph completing another effective spell and Shadab stranded at the non-striker’s end.

Guyana lost openers Glenn Phillips and Matthew Nandu early in the chase, but Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer ensured there was no setback. Hope attacked Alzarri Joseph for 18 runs in the fifth over and then took on Jayden Seales in the sixth as the Warriors surged through the Powerplay.

Shimron Hetmyer dismantled the Falcons’ spin options, hitting two sixes each against Rahkeem Cornwall and Moeen Ali. He added two more sixes and a four from Shamar Springer before falling for 49, leaving the Warriors needing little to finish the chase.

Quentin Sampson struck the winning six—the third consecutive Guyana victory completed with a maximum—while Shai Hope remained unbeaten on 47. Guyana reached 121 for three in only 9.5 overs, strengthening an already impressive net run-rate and maintaining their position among the competition’s unbeaten teams.
