Baumann keeps Germany dream alive and vows to force his way into Klopp's plans

Hoffenheim keeper Baumann refuses to rule out Germany return under Klopp

TSG Hoffenheim's Oliver Baumann has made clear he is not walking away from the Germany national team, insisting he still wants to force his way back into contention under new boss Jürgen Klopp.

According to RTL/Sky's sources, the 34-year-old is not considering an imminent retirement from international duty. Speaking to RTL/Sky, the Hoffenheim number one said he intends to keep pushing for a recall and catch the eye of the man now in charge of Die Mannschaft.

“I haven't closed the door [on the German national team]. And that's why I'm not retiring. I'm trying to perform – as always,” Baumann said. “I'm trying to play at a level that allows me to be considered for the national team.”

The veteran keeper, who has been a reliable presence for Hoffenheim for years, believes he still has something to offer at the highest level and is happy to let the coach make the final call.

“I'm personally in a situation where I think I can help a team. Including a national team in general, I feel fit enough to help a national team. And then I'll leave the decision to the coach,” he added.

Baumann's comments come after he was omitted from Klopp's squad during the first international break of the new era. Despite the snub, the Hoffenheim shot-stopper evidently still believes in his chances and suggests he has the quality to bolster the German squad if given the opportunity.
