Yuvraj Singh joins Delhi Capitals as assistant and batting coach for IPL 2027
Yuvraj Singh takes his first formal coaching role
Delhi Capitals have appointed former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as assistant and batting coach for IPL 2027. The franchise announced the appointment, marking the start of Yuvraj’s first formal coaching assignment and a return to the Delhi setup after 11 years.
Yuvraj previously played for the franchise, then called Delhi Daredevils, during the 2015 IPL season. Delhi signed him for INR 16 crore at that season’s auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at the time; he appeared in all 14 of the team’s matches that season.
Reunited with Sourav Ganguly
The appointment also brings Yuvraj back together with Sourav Ganguly, recently named Delhi Capitals’ head coach. Yuvraj said he was looking forward to working with his former India captain, describing the opportunity as a special one because of his longstanding association with the franchise and its owners.
“I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches,” Yuvraj said. He added that coaching was something he was “truly passionate about” and that he could not wait to start working with the squad.
Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed the appointment, praising Yuvraj’s experience, winning mindset and ability to connect with and mentor younger cricketers. Co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi also pointed to his competitive spirit and understanding of the game as assets for the coaching staff.
A decorated playing career
Yuvraj was a key member of India’s title-winning teams at the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. He played 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is for India. In the IPL, he featured in 132 matches, scoring 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets.
In recent years, Yuvraj has mentored several Indian cricketers, including Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh. Delhi Capitals will hope his experience as a major-tournament winner and mentor can strengthen a side still seeking its first IPL title.
