Sunil Narine Breaks Record for Most IPL Appearances by Overseas Player

In a historic moment for the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Sunil Narine has etched his name into the record books by becoming the overseas player with the most appearances in the tournament's history.

Sunil Narine celebrating his milestone IPL match

Narine achieved this feat during the IPL 2026 season in a clash against Mumbai Indians at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. This marked his 190th IPL match, surpassing the long-standing record held by Kieron Pollard, who had 189 appearances. Narine now tops an elite list that includes AB de Villiers and David Warner, both with 184 matches, and Dwayne Bravo with 161.

Since making his IPL debut in 2012 against Rajasthan Royals, Narine has been a pillar of consistency for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Remarkably, he has remained loyal to KKR throughout his career, contributing significantly to their success, including all three of their IPL title wins. His all-round prowess is evident in his statistics: 1780 runs at an average of 17.62 and a strike rate of 166.51, alongside 192 wickets at an economy rate of 6.8.

The mystery spinner also holds the unique distinction of winning the Player of the Tournament award three times—in 2012, 2018, and 2024—making him the most awarded player in IPL history in this category.

The match featured KKR's playing XI: Finn Allen, Ajinkya Rahane (c), Cameron Green, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (w), Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy, Vaibhav Arora, and Blessing Muzarabani. Mumbai Indians lined up with: Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton (w), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (c), Sherfane Rutherford, Naman Dhir, Shardul Thakur, Mayank Markande, AM Ghazanfar, Trent Boult, and Jasprit Bumrah.

As Narine continues to shine with both bat and ball, this milestone further solidifies his legacy as one of the greatest overseas players in IPL history.
