The issue arose after Cricket West Indies (CWI) released a statement citing "personal reasons" for Joseph's unavailability, while Sammy told reporters the pacer had "declined selection" despite being picked after recovering from injury.

Workload Management Behind Decision

Joseph explained that the decision was made in consultation with both Sammy and CWI, with a focus on managing his workload following a year-long absence due to a second stress fracture. Having returned for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka and played five ODIs against New Zealand, he felt his body wasn't ready for another Test series. "We had a chat, myself and the head coach. He knows exactly what that statement would have done and the narrative it would have pushed in the public," Joseph said on the Good Morning Jojo Sports Show.

When asked if the situation strained his relationship with Sammy, Joseph emphasized his professionalism: "I'm a professional, so I'm going to go to work. I'm not representing Daren Sammy. I go there to work and do a job and represent the people of the West Indies."
